The new plans for the stadium of AEK were presented just two days ago, but AEK fans had little time to cheer. The Municipality of Nea Philadelphia and several citizens of this Athens suburb have claimed for years that the construction of the new stadium violates many environmental rules.

The latest episode in this long courtroom saga took place yesterday, as the Supreme Court decided that the law passed in Parliament in 2003, allowing the club to proceed with construction, is against the Greek Constitution and numerous European Union regulations! The decision is not final, as the case will be heard again in one year. However, it brings a temporary halt to anyone's plans of constructing a new stadium for AEK on the site of the old Nikos Goumas Stadium in Nea Philadelphia.
