The Greek and Turkish Football Federations will place a bid to co-host the European Football Championship of 2008. The two sides met on Friday and announced the first details of their proposal to UEFA. What we are interested in here is its organizational part, and especially the proposed venues.

According to the announcement, the opening match of the tournament will be played in Istanbul, while the Final will be hosted in Athens (most probably in the
OLYMPIC STADIUM). If we use Euro 2000 as an example (co-hosted by Belgium and Holland), we can assume that 8 stadia will be used in 2008, 4 in each country. There are rumours that the other 3 Greek stadia (except for the Olympic) will be Pancretan, Kaftanzoglio and one more with capacity 30,000+ that will have to be constructed by then (e.g. Karaiskaki, New Rendi Stadium, New Panathinaikos Stadium). Of course, all this will happen if UEFA chooses Greece and Turkey for 2008, although it seems that the "Nordic" (Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland) joint bid is the favourite right now.
