Olympiakos Piraeus Basketball Club will move to
GLYFADA ARENA for the 2001-02 season. Olympiakos's home, the PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP STADIUM, will close down in April 2002, in order for it to be refurbished for the 2004 Olympics. Olympiakos B.C. had the chance to stay there until then, but that would mean they would have to move just before the playoffs. Therefore, they chose to move to Glyfada for the whole season. The arena is no strange place for the Piraeus club. They have played many games there, whenever they couldn't use their original home for various reasons (e.g. athletics events, exhibitions etc). It is however much smaller than the Peace and Friendship Stadium (capacity 3,232 compared to 14,776) and also lies almost 10 km away from Piraeus.
